A thoughtful photo timeline keeps your Atlanta wedding day relaxed and leaves room for the portraits, candids, and reception moments you will want years from now.
You found this guide from the Krista Turner Photography home page. I am Krista, an Atlanta wedding photographer, and I build timelines with planners, venues, and couples so coverage fits your ceremony length, travel between locations, and family traditions.

Why the timeline matters
Atlanta weddings often move between a getting-ready suite, a ceremony site, and a reception hall that may be across town. Traffic on I-75, I-85, and surface streets near Midtown or Buckhead can eat twenty to forty minutes if it is not built into the schedule. When portrait time is protected on the front end, you are not rushing through family formals or missing sunset on the lawn.
Sample wedding day schedule
Every wedding is different, but this outline works well for a Saturday with a 5:00 p.m. ceremony and eight hours of photography coverage:
11:00 a.m. Photographer arrives for detail shots, dress hanging, and getting-ready candids with bridesmaids.
1:30 p.m. First look and couple portraits on site or at a nearby park before guests arrive.
2:30 p.m. Wedding party and family formals in a shaded spot with a printed shot list.
4:15 p.m. Guests seated. Final touch-ups and quiet moment before the processional.
5:00 p.m. Ceremony, including time to photograph the exit and receiving line if you host one.
6:00 p.m. Cocktail hour coverage: room details, bar, and candid guest photos.
7:00 p.m. Grand entrance, first dance, parent dances, and open floor through cake cutting.
9:00 p.m. Golden-hour portraits if your venue has outdoor light, then dancing until coverage ends.
Portrait blocks that work in Atlanta
Book forty-five to sixty minutes for couple portraits if you are staying at one venue. Add thirty minutes when you move to Piedmont Park, the BeltLine, or a private estate in North Georgia. Overcast days are kind for even skin tones. Bright summer afternoons may call for open shade or a later first look so you are not squinting in direct sun.
Build your list before the wedding
Send your photographer a family formal list with names and groupings two weeks out. Assign a point person from each side to gather relatives quickly. That small step saves ten to fifteen minutes, which is often enough for an extra song on the dance floor or a quiet photo with grandparents.
